Every family deserves to birth gently and with confidence. The Positive Birth Program supports a powerful holistic birthing experience by instilling belief, wisdom, intuition and promotes a flourishing transition into parenthood. Positive birth education releases generational views associated with fear and uncertainty by inspiring a new mindset towards birth. Evidence based knowledge guides and motivates families to be informed, assertive and in control of their birthing experience.
Many people associate hypnosis with hypnotists on stage making others act and behave in a certain manner. Hypnobirthing is not giving birth while you are hypnotised. Hypnobirthing utilises hypnotherapy to promote deep relaxation. Self-hypnosis is a natural calming state of mind achieved by conditioning our approach to birth in a gentle and comforting manner to optimise endorphin release. Without realising it, we have all experienced a state of hypnosis in our everyday lives! It may be when engaged watching a movie, deeply focused on a task, immersed in a captivating book or when drifting off to restful sleep. In these moments, you are conscious and in control yet in a calm and focused state of mind.
The hypnobirthing mother is deeply relaxed but remains an active participant in the labour process. Hypnobirthing mothers are totally aware of events and may return to a conversant state or choose to become mobile when desired. Hypnobirthing mothers often find they experience time distortion, are not distracted by others or their birthing environment allowing complete focus on birthing their baby. Hypnobirthing is a skill that can be utilised for all births, even when special circumstances arise including medical intervention and caesarean birth.
The Positive Birth Program incorporates tools and philosophies for childbirth including relaxation, breathing techniques, visualisation, optimal positioning, movement, affirmations, and acupressure. A supportive birth partner advocates for choices in care and builds confidence through praise, reassurance, and continuous physical presence. Birth partners foster a nurturing, private and tranquil environment with the inclusion of soft tones, music, dim lighting, scents, movement, touch, and the power of language. Mutual understanding of birth preferences communicates birth goals and desires to care providers and maintains family rights in childbirth.
Education nurtures the mind, body, and soul. Knowledge encourages the understanding of safe and normal childbirth physiology to protect families. This aims to avoid the overuse of interventions, achieve better birth outcomes and increased family satisfaction. A positive birthing experience impacts parental-baby bonding and the physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual transition during the postpartum period and into parenthood. The Positive Birth Program can be incorporated into any scenario to promote an empowering journey.
Knowledge, tools, support, and preparation are the key ingredients to a positive, comfortable, and valuable birth.
